“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”Maria Montessori
The Casita environment serves children who are comfortably walking in a small and intimate setting that is thoughtfully prepared to appeal to the toddler-aged child.
The room incorporates many familiar aspects of the home while offering opportunities for social engagement, independent work, and exploration.
Children develop greater independence and confidence through practical life work such food preparation, caring for an outdoor garden, and setting the table for lunch.
Materials in the classroom are designed to strengthen coordination, refine the senses, expand language skills and help the child develop positive work habits in a smaller supportive community.
The Casita classroom is led by a Montessori trained Guide with Assistants to support the children’s work in the environment. There is a maximum group size of 12, as is recommended by AMI.
Students in the Casita are guaranteed placement in our Children’s House communities. Children transition between 2 ½ and 3 years of age, according to their individual development.
