Solid Ground

Solid Ground

Community Montessori School supports a Solid Ground program which seeks to make accommodations for students with learning differences, as possible. A central tenet of the Montessori philosophy is that communities for 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 year-old students have large class sizes with mixed-aged communities. This class size is appropriate for some children with differences, but some students’ needs require more intimate groups and smaller adult-to-child ratios than our Montessori certification allows for. As learning differences are considered, parents are referred to their pediatricians for further information. If an evaluation is recommended, the CMS Solid Ground program can provide access to resources to supplement what the family’s pediatrician offers.

The Solid Ground program has a full-time Learning Specialist to assist with accommodations and tutoring as recommended. Once learning differences are identified, a trial period is established to ensure that the child’s specific learning requirements can be met at our school. The period is arranged between the parents, the guide, the Learning Specialist and the school’s executive director. This group also creates a specific plan for the child, based on the recommendations of the pediatrician and, if applicable, the child’s evaluation.
