Each family at CMS is asked to contribute 25 hours of volunteer time each school year. Our parent volunteers help us out in a wide variety of ways and are a big part of what makes CMS a great place!
We have a number of parent committees at CMS that contribute to the fun and festivities at our school and that also provide crucial help in offering extra programs and benefits to our students. Sign up here to join or just come to a meeting and check it out! Committee meetings are listed in the Tuesday email that goes out weekly to all families enrolled at CMS.
Gardens & Grounds Committee: Hosts twice yearly events we call Community Building Days, where families come out and work in gardens and around the school grounds. Plans future projects related to our outdoor areas, such as developing a donation garden and cultivating our pollinator garden. Last but not least, prunes, weeds, waters and plants!
Classroom Support Committee: Includes but is not limited to Room Parents for each classroom. Welcomes new families, provides support for Classroom Guides and assists with creating the class auction projects. This committee also treats the staff to breakfast on All Staff Workdays and during Teacher appreciation week.
Library Committee: CMS is lucky to have a dedicated space for a school library, which is managed and staffed every weekday morning by volunteers from the Library Committee. They also assist with the yearly Book fair at CMS.
Development Committee: CMS makes every effort to keep tuition as low as we can to bring Montessori education to as many families as possible. Tuition covers our basic operations only so to provide for growth, update materials and develop our grounds and programs we fundraise. This committee brainstorms fun ideas and helps plan the fundraising efforts undertaken by our school, including the annual Spring Auction.
If a committee is not your thing, there are many other ways to become part of the CMS community. Offer to help your child’s Guide with classroom projects or backyard gardening. Sign up to be an approved driver for elementary Field Trips. Volunteer to help staff a special event or pick up groceries for the school.
If you have particular talents such as sewing, construction, graphic design or web site development, let us know! It helps us all to “home-grow” many of these things. Volunteer opportunities are communicated in weekly Tuesday school-wide emails and also by individual Guides in their own class emails.
