Community Montessori School

The Montessori Approach

Our educational approach stems from the work of Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, educator, and innovator whose method is based on how children naturally learn. Dr. Montessori was ahead of her time, and her core principles—that effective learning is self-directed and calls for the development of the whole child—uniquely prepares your child for our fast-changing world.

Individualized

Children learn at their own pace and lessons are tailored to incorporate their individual interests. Understanding comes from the child's own experiences and discoveries.

"The mind of the child takes elements from the environment and incarnates them into his being. This does not happen through heredity, but is the consequence of a creative potential within the child. All children in the world follow this law ... it is inherent in the nature of the child."  -Maria Montessori, Citizen of the World, p. 93

Community Oriented

Having a variety of ages in the classroom promotes peer to peer learning and collaboration. Students stay with the same guide and peer group for more than just one school year, creating opportunities for deeper bonds in their learning community.

Experiential

The Montessori classroom community is child-centered and structured to support student activity and development. A wide variety of subjects are presented through hands-on experiences and individual or small group work. Students develop independence, problem-solving abilities, and self-confidence by doing.
