Siham A.

Attended CMS: 2007-2012

Siham, an aspiring lawyer, believes CMS helped instill in her the values she holds near and dear to her heart.

Q: How long were you at CMS?

A: I started in pre-school and stayed till I finished third grade.

Q: Where are you now?

A: I’m a junior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I’m double majoring in legal studies and political science with a minor in economics. I want to be a lawyer. I’ve known that ever since I saw Legally Blonde in second grade.

Q: Describe some of your memorable moments as a student.

A: In lower elementary, we performed a play called Pearl. It was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had. Everyone came together and we worked on costumes and practicing parts. I remember being terrified of auditioning because we had to sing. My friend Grace got the part of Pearl. Our teacher, Gina, announced it in class and everyone was so excited. I also remember going to Camp Allen where I got to pet a falcon.

Q: Describe your transition to traditional school.

A: My transition was a little hard because I went from a classroom with few students to one with almost 30 classmates. But I like talking, and I got to know people. That made things easier for me.

Q: How did CMS prepare you for middle school and high school?

A:  CMS gave me the necessary social and developmental skills I needed to thrive in my new environment. It also made me strive to achieve more, and be ambitious.

Q: What interests did you pursue while you were at CMS? Are you still working on those passions?

A: Arts and crafts for sure. Crocheting and knitting are my favorite pastimes. It also fostered my love for nature and travel.

Q: How do you think your Montessori education prepared you for life?

A: It taught me I can take my time with things and do the things I like. I also learned to view the world in a less materialistic way and make the most normal things fun. I hold the values taught by Montessori near and dear to my heart.

Q: Do you have advice for our current CMS adolescent students?

A: Not every bad thing is the end of the world. Pick yourself up and learn from your mistakes. I had to learn that the hard way. Also, enjoy your learning and have fun with your friends. Time really does fly!
